The trouble with our Estonian history is that barely over half the story is told. We've got a good idea about the Soviet v's Nazi conflict, but we've hardly touched the issue of enough individual accounts as to who fought on whose side and why the did. I have talked to a lot of people who have raised issues (too many of them to chronicle here...) about soldiers' conditions on one or another front. We have struggled-unsuccessfully it seems-to portray a picture of "the good guys v's the bad", but I for one am waiting on the sidelines for a much deeper level of research and some quite startling and astonishing facts yet to be revealed about our history, and that time will come!

You are telling us that you know something that the rest of us do don't -- without telling us what it is. So, your comment is nothing more than a vacuous self-advertisement.
Maxim.18 Feb 2007 08:33
Wrong again! I'm telling you that's it's worth hedging your bets on history revealing some highly interesting detail that hitherto has been overlooked. It's quite like peering into the future knowing that someone somewhere is going to release some new Lennon/Mc Cartney song which no-one knew a thing about before. And that's makes for interesting reading!

I would imagine the 90th Anniversary of Estonian Independence would be an appropriate time to broaden the span of Estonian history. Hope you're right Maxim.

Maxim, you old monkey! You give yourself away with your accent just like a skunk with his smell.
Marcus Kolga19 Feb 2007 08:41
There is a wonderful two part book that was published by Olion in 1993: "Eestlased Toopatajonides" by Urmas Usai. Howver, it's next to impossible to find, even in Tallinn's wonderful used book stores.

Estonian has brilliant historical anayists such as Teet Veispak who is unrolling some truly amazing angles on Estonian history, and I highly recommend to anyone who is frustrated by the limited information available within their own community.
Maxim's brilliant analyst?19 Feb 2007 16:15
Hey Maxim! You already chewed your cud about Veispak. Don't you remember? You referred us to one of his brilliant analyses and, when it was translated into English, even you were surprised at how stupid it sounded. It made us think that you didn't understand the Estonian original. Instead of strutting around here trying to convince us that you possess secret information, you should learn a language -- something like English or Estonian.
Anyway, I'll tell you something nice to know. Veispak isn't really a historical analyst. He's a journalist and most of his writing is about gay issues.
Maxim.19 Feb 2007 22:08
It's nice to know that some people can release their anger at other peoples' expense. I've seen it here before, and your case is not likely to be the last! However, I'm afraid you're deeply mistaken for imagining that Veispak is a gay journalist, and expressing such intellectually dishonest and provocative ideas earns you no browny points whatsoever. Best if you really stuck to what you knew, don't you think?
Maxim can't read!20 Feb 2007 06:14
Veispak is a journalist who focuses on gay issues. (Check him out with a google search.)
Whether or not he is gay is nobody's business.
Maxim.20 Feb 2007 07:12
If it's no-one's business, why on earth have you taken the trouble of making it your business to know one way or the other??
Maxim can't think!20 Feb 2007 10:46
He must be tired.

Maxim:

There is a saying (at least in North America) that if you find yourself in a hole: Stop Digging!

Eerik, pay attention.

By the way, he spells his name with one 'e' as in Erik.
JK21 Feb 2007 11:10
I would be very careful about brining up individual names on this board in such a negative context. There have been a number of Canadian slander cases where ISPs and websites have had to release identities of users - see Warren Kinsella.

I would also suggest that EE be more vigilant in monitoring such posts, as this website would be the first to be named in any action.

These angry, juvenile posts need to end.
Maxim.21 Feb 2007 12:20
I wish to take a defensive stand against those people who are slandering EK, thinking that it is he who is writing under the name of Maxim. This completely false! Leave the man in peace, and if you wish to contribute something useful to this site, feel free to do so, but stick to the subject if that is at all possible. It also makes Tauno's job much easier. Best of luck in the future...
Anonymous21 Feb 2007 13:22
Someone should alert the actual EK that his name has been tossed around on this site. Anyone confused with Maxim just might be as mad as hell.
Tiritamm21 Feb 2007 13:32
Maxim, are you proud of your behaviour here? If so, redeem the falsely maligned EK by identifying yourself.
Maxim.21 Feb 2007 13:51
I am here to contribute ideas as broad as the imagination will permit, but I am not here to give myself into the hands of people who would have me crucified if it were in their power to do so! Today is Ash Wednesday. Go to a church nearby and look deeply into the heart of an icon, then contemplate;firstly, about the events leading up to Christ's death; secondly, think about who has the right to throw the first stone. It is neither you nor I. We are all mere mortals here, making the best of a life we are given. I hope you are making the best use of yours whilst it is in your hands to do so. Best of luck...
Godfrey Willems21 Feb 2007 14:21
One thing's for sure:Pharisees are more modest and humble than most Estonian commentators that appear here.
Tiritamm21 Feb 2007 16:02
Maxim, drawing parallels between yourself and Jesus Christ is a serious lapse in judgment.
If no one has the right to cast the first stone, why are you -- invariably -- the first to comment with a salvo? With "ideas as broad as the human imagine will permit"? Not at all! Typically you boast about exclusive information and knowledge of the future (which you keep to yourself). Often, you goad us. Occasionally, you cruelly and unjustifiably insult us.
In response you expect adulation. You are shocked and insulted when jeered at. God put you here with a purpose, but this isn't it.
I hope that you find your purpose and get the f--k out of our sight because you don't know how annoying it is to be pestered by a slightly retarded megalomaniac.
Anonymous21 Feb 2007 17:22
.. a "slightly retarded megalomaniac".
How very apt.
JK21 Feb 2007 20:45
Where the bloody hell is the moderator of this forum or the webmaster?
If these threats of physical violence aren't reason for banning this user or at least setting up a login system with an email validator, I'm not sure what is.
Such hatemongering among our own community is embarrasing.
to JK22 Feb 2007 05:17
Relax Peter. No one has threatened violence here.
Since we've got you one the line, so to speak, I wonder what you think of Maxim's activities here? We know that you are in favour of free speech (at least until your kind get into power); but what do you think about the substance of Maxim's commentary?
JK22 Feb 2007 07:47
Thank you for removing the previous hateful and offensive post.
I would seriously suggest a login page in the future. Such measures might keep the tone of the discussion intelligent and civil and may even discourage the use of school yard terms like "retard" and the slanderous agression against random people.
to - Maxim18 Feb 2007 16:53
You, like everyone else, can't predict the future. By trying, along with your implausible claims to exclusive knowledge, you make yourself sound foolish. Your hopelessly ungrammatical expression (in both Estonian and English) exaggerates the effect -- you sound deranged. To top it off, it's infuriating when you insult us.
