You are right Jaak. Just like lemmings (yours look more like frogs) the Broadviewites will be doing this once the crumbling pile of bricks on Broadview is sold.
Does this mean that "the lemmings" (i.e. our community) is too stupid to act in its rational self-interest?
Jaak Järve seems to be competing with Allan Meiusi for the job of Moses. Both wish to lead us to "a promised land".
What conceit!
We should remind them that psychiatric therapy is available for free in this Province.

Dear Megalomaniacs!
Maybe the question should be who really started this quest "for the promised land". And who is responsible for creating this acidic, vituperative environment, within our small Toronto Estonian community. Maybe you should look in the mirror and see that you are the one wearing the straightjacket!

For years a group of responsible, reputable volunteers have dealt with alternatives for developing a new Estonian community centre.
It's a massive job made more difficult by kibitzers on the sidelines offering unsolicited, unrealistic advice and implying base motives and incompetence.
Who do they think they are? Where were Järve, Meiusi and Tanner in the early stages? Why should Meiusi's friend Matthews have a say in this matter?

Who? ... The author of the cartoon who insults us as a herd of lemmings!

"...for creating this acidic, vituperative environment, within our small Toronto Estonian community?""
Hold on there ... the authors of this acidic environment would have to be those running the Madison show. If they had done their homework early on, they would have encountered the immense dislike for the busy, urban, congested, no-parking location presently chosen and could have possibly chosen another location. Do we actually know how long Tartu College will be in Estonian hands? When Jaan Meri tires of holding the baton, will it not be sold to Canadian interests? It is highly doubtful that VEMU is happening and even Madison organizers do not seem to be holding their breath. It would appear that J. Meri does not have the energy to take it on, which is fine, but let's be honest with the community about it.
Why are we cramming the future Estonian centre on a postage-size property over a subway line? Cost over-runs, anyone? There will be significant ones and I find it hard to believe that the project will not get bogged down in these and we will not have the money to pay for these surprises that come along with every build. I continue to have a really bad feeling about the Madison project all around.

And furthermore, the Estonian House Board used tricks to prevent V. Keelmann and I. Tanner and others from getting on the Estonian House board, thereby obstructing due process according to their own EH rules. A dirty play. So don't say "where were you?"

It looks like an impossible situation.
We can't stay on Broadview because Meiusi's friend Matthews objects to a developer who "doesn't live in the neighbourhood and is only out to make a buck".
We can't move to Madison because there is no parking.
I'd propose moving into Casa Loma, but busibodies -- without shares -- would find a reason to veto that, even if we had the money, which we don't! We must work with the resources that we have.
We're all acquainted with the team putting the the Madison project together. Without exception, they are people of accomplishment and integrity, in sharp contrast to Meiusi and everything that he has said and done, both in Arizona and at Ehatare!
EWR readers should go back and look at Meiusi's articles on this issue. Over a handfull of facts, he weaves a mephitic story vaguely implying incompetence and worse.

I am confused. Jaak claims to be a proponent of the Esto House. Yet as many recall, his recent Chess Tournament was not held there. Instead, it was at the Baptist Church. This suggests to me that he supports neither the current Esto House nor Madison? The Esto House needs a rental stream, yet Jaak doesn't want to provide one. I am truly confused.
Nothing confusing here!
Jaak, Meiusi and some others think that they should have the last word on other Estonians invest their money.

Dear Alanis, you must have a burr under your saddle and a bee in your bonnet....April 29th is also the Aken Bazaar at Eesti Maja, so we are inviting our players to visit the bazaar in the morning and then come and play chess at the quiet and serene Baptist Church basement. By the way, ironically speaking of course, we tried to book Tartu College on the 29th also, but alas, there was a conflict with the VEMU fundraising event that same day. Speaking about fundraising... I can't remember Eesti Maja organizing a fundraising event last year. Do you remember the last fundraising event at Eesti Maja? Just asking.....
