Unfortunately the plan to build a new centre next to Tartu College was a hasty and emotional one. As someone who has attended evening lectures at Tartu College and visited the Estonian House at night, I felt better walking to Broadview station than Spadina station. Neighbourhoods change. I have been told that the KESKUS location was once better than the Estonian House location.
I´m not sure what can be done to make the area safer. Having an open space under KESKUS will only attract the wrong crowd, with no public washrooms in the area and the homeless problem in Toronto.
I think that most of the initial organizers seldom visited Tartu College by subway or by foot. There were always homeless people asking for money on the sidewalk on Bloor near Spadina.
Many initial KESKUS enthusiasts drove their cars and parked in the same parking lot and later in the underground.
I remember seeing someone urinate against the wall of Tartu College at the same time choirs were practicing with Hirvo Surva inside. Soon some strange people came to this same parkette where I was waiting for a friend at the rehersal. I left.
I was later told that the parkette was regularly used by drug addicts and homeless people. Although they may need a place to be, my concern is that they will move across the street to the KESKUS and Tartu College property.
Is it too late to find a safer family-friendly area for Estonians? How far are we with KESKUS? I have heard many regret the sale of the Estonian House. Can we buy it back at a loss?

I am not sure about buying back the Estonian House since it has been empty for a while and all the furnishings were sold. I assume that the money has all been spent on digging the hole on Madison. Maybe the shareholders could get together to hire a lawyer and take legal action.

All you anti-Keskus, this divisive attitude only aids the Russian propaganda machine. So why must you bring what has been done.

If you are still intent on doing this, may I suggest that you support another Estonian facility such as Ehatare.

Jõekääru, Kotkajärve, and Seedrioru could also use your help wether it be financially or through talgud.

Please bring positivity back into the community as reliving the past is not good for yourself or our small community.

These comments from the KESKUS trolls are so funny to read. Since the white elephant has obviously failed, they have resorted to calling those with common sense, pro Russia. I wonder if they know that some of the conspiracy theorists in our community have been saying that Putin is behind the KESKUS for a while now.
