In the past few days the Lasnamäe collective has increased its drive towards completing their Orthodox Cathedral-The Church of the Assumption Cathedral located at the foothill of Lasnamäe overlooking the Lauluplats. I think this is the best solution possible to the friction which has resulted from the past few days, and I would go one step further. I would strongly recommend a change of faith from Lutheranism to Orthodoxy, which would immediately heal all the wounds of the past week and give a sense of oneness. There is one important reason to do this; it is because Aleksius is returning to Russia a healed man, and we should follow in his footsteps and heal ourselves by becoming a 100% Orthodox nation again. If we are a bridge between East and West, what better way to show it but through our common Orthodox faith.

The last decades of Tsarism included aggressive policies to Russify Estonia. This included an offer of free land to impoverished Estonian peasants who were willing to convert to the Orthodox Church. That accounts for the 10% of Estonians with an Orthodox background.
Maxim's comment above is probably a provocation. If not, it's further evidence of his insanity.

Was it not a few days ago that Maxim heralded the death of Aleksius and that he was going to be buried in "fascist" Estonia. Make up your mind Maxim. I would offer that it would be more natural and ask all Russians to convert and become Lutherans.

It's obvious that in Canada there is a definite swing away from interest towards the Baltic States. Harper has made it all too clear that Estonia is not on his wish list, and that leaves you lot in a very difficult situation regarding assisting your counterparts in Estonia. This is a shame, but it shows the progressive move away from Estonia that living in Canada produces. I think that the bad-mouthing at people like me simply mirrors this attitude of distancing from the community, and it pains me to think that sarcasm and putdowns are the only thing left that tie people in the Canadian Estonian Community together. Please pull your heads in and let's work more co-operatively in the future. My prediction is that the Russian community in Estonia stands to win a significant number of political and cultural points from the evets of the past week, and there is a lot of sense in what they are saying. We need to "breed out" the ugly side of our differences in the future, and "breed in" a greater sense of empathy towards each other. I think this will be done in increasing measure, starting with mass conversions to the Orthodox faith.
