The Ontario Government, through the Kemptville district office of the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR), has developed a new directive on the relocation of wild animals to help prevent the spread of diseases such as rabies, distemper and mange.
Under this new direction, anyone who live-traps a wild animal, such as a raccoon, skunk or fox is to release the animal no further than one kilometre from the point of capture and within 24 hours. Local trappers and animal control agencies have been notified of the new policy. (OMNR May 16, 2000)
