0I think Laas should go to Moscow and shake Putin by the ear. That's just to get his attention. Then, he can tell Putin to behave himself.
Let's be real. In the short term, there is little that anyone can do. In the long term, Russians will suffer for this because their governing mafia is keeping Russia out of the family of civilized nations and its institutions -- the EU, the WTO, the G8 and etc. Russian energy resources will have to be developed without the grease of Western technology and investment.
With his attack on Georgia, Putin has spurred the movement toward independence from thug-state oil. Also, he just created a huge voting-block in the USA for John McCain.

0Putin didn't play his cards right. If he had waited until Obama became became President, then he could have stomped on Georgia with no more reaction than a blast of hot air from the White House and the UN. That's easy to shake off.

0I dont' think Harper, or the Canadian goverment can do much of anything to compel Putin about anything right now. And, the international community was and is intervening. It's not going to go away overnight and Canada is best to stay out of it for the moment and let the big players do their thing.
