When Bob Rae was the Premier of Ontario, he instructed the Civil Service to refrain from wishing citizens a merry Christmas to avoid insulting citizens of other faiths.
Some of this vile nonsense is still with us and we all know where it came from.
Anonymous15 Dec 2008 10:34
How odd. I just heard Bob Rae wishing constituents a "Merry Christmas" on television.

When Bob Rae was Premier of Ontario, he called himself a socialist. Since, he has become a Liberal.
Anonymous16 Dec 2008 08:22
Bob also calls himself a "Lithuanian" and a supporter of "Baltic sovereignty," "NATO expansion," and a "NATO-Baltic defense strategy."
But somehow ancient semantics regarding a holiday that few of us really celebrate for its intended Christian meaning trump all of that. Right?

Perhaps in the New Year, you could resolve to dislodge your head from you-know-where.

Bob Rae had a Lithuanian-Jewish grandfather and, it's true that, he endorsed many Baltic-friendly policies. That doesn't make his anti-Christmas stance any less obnoxious.
.17 Dec 2008 07:45
I should have said, "...his former anti-Christmas stance..."
Grrr-istmas17 Dec 2008 11:22
I find anyone who inists on using up any resources, including the EKN, to argue semantics about a holiday to be obnoxious. Do you really not have anything better to do? As an Estonian, you should be ashamed to be celebrating this holiday anyway. If it weren't for the tutonic knights, murdering and raping us into Christian submission, we'd still be dancing around a bonfire, half naked and completely drunk at the Winter solctice.
Anonymous17 Dec 2008 14:16
I don't think we'd be half-naked, unless of course we just came from the saun.
Our foremothers all knew how to keep their families warmly dressed for the northern climate.

Ilusat talvist pööripäeva teile!

Paistku valgus teie kodudesse!
is your name Lenin?17 Dec 2008 15:09
What's obnoxious about wishing to celebrate Christmas? And wishing the joyful spirit of Christmas upon everyone, of all faiths?

Lenin, by the way, hated classical music and, especially, that of Beethoven. Why? Because it gave people solace and joy.
Can't have any of that when there's a revolution on the go and solace might stall the day that politically correct, socialist know-it-alls can regulate everything from our diet to our sex-life.
Anonymous17 Dec 2008 19:16
Why must you right-wing judeo-christian fascists always polarize every single issue?
I said that arguing semantics about what to call the holidays is obnixious not the actual holiday.
Perhaps your over zealous belief in a non-Estonian religion is making you a titch slow in the noggen.
.18 Dec 2008 07:05
Wow! It sure doesn't take much to qualify as a right-wing, Judeo-Christian fascist around here. Party membership is assured with any Christmas card you write.

Do us a favour, Mr. Politically Correct. Look up the word, "semantics", in the dictionary and, while you are there, check out, "obfuscation", as well.

Looks like we've got another Maxim on our hands, ready to lecture us about everything, even though he can't speak English.
Anonymous18 Dec 2008 08:10
Actually, he should be looking up 'syntax'.
Anonymous18 Dec 2008 10:25
Now bullying and intimidating isn't very Christian of you -is it? Your line sounds more like that of an old-school Soviet crony than someone who truly believes in Chirst. Why celebrate Christmas at all if you don't believe in Christian values?
Anonymous18 Dec 2008 16:25
Woah! What else are you going to get when you start using labels like “right-wing judeo-christian facists”….hold on a sec here. Maybe you didn’t say that the holiday was “obnixious” but you did say that one should be ashamed to celebrate this holiday. I don’t even know if I label myself as a Christian, or whatever, but I’m not ashamed to celebrate a holiday, that promotes good will and peace. In fact, it’s the only holiday that I’ve ever known to be one that promotes any kind of love and goodness in the time that I’ve been alive.

Wonderful! Merry Christams to you then.
