0I'm shocked!! This IS very offensive.
When our sons were in elementary school in Ajax, they had a French Immersion teacher, an anglophone, who thought it was CUTE to call silent reading time "USSR" (uninterrupted silent study and reading).
This was pre 1991.
I was so offended, I wrote a several page long letter to the teacher, principal and Board. In the end, the name was changed, but the teacher still didn't "get" my objection.
(She also thought it was wrong of me to speak Estonian with the boys because it would confuse them while in French Immersion!!!!!!!! - they are now fluent in all 3 native languages)
The MTO shouldn't allow such vanity plates. We should complain!!

Multilingual people don't, in fact, confuse their languages. That convinces me that your child's French-immersion teacher doesn't really have a firm grasp of French. You should tell her that that the typical Estonian (in Estonia) moves comfortably among Estonian, Finnish, Russian and English.
Then, there are some, like Maxim de la Trine, who don't confuse languages for the simple reason that they can't speak anything at all.

I would love to visit Mme MacDonald at Southwood Park P.S. and show her how wrong she was, but she's probably not there anymore. That was years ago! I hope they have better, more enlightened teachers there now.

At first I didn't understand the correlation with the plate when I first saw the huge "Stalingrad" decal on the back window. But now as I look closer I see the "U S S R" on the licence plate.
There are a lot of companies in North America, using Soviet Republik nostalgia to lure people to their products.
Unfortunately for many, they don't think deeply about the actual reality of what this represents to many others.
