and how does this apply to the Estonian community?
tt03 Sep 2009 12:58
many canadians of estonian heritage have assimilated with this part of the local culture and have also become afflicted with the cursed disease
just trying to help everyone, my own esto community first !

EE is a Toronto enterprise. Estonian language articles are often about local, non-esto community events. Adu Raudkivi writes about local Toronto, Ontario and Canada issues, that might be of interest to Toronto residents. Why remain parochial? Embrace the bigger world, bet there are many estos who are in the Stockholm clutches of Leaf nation.... And, hey, the Hess family would love a Hamilton franchise, one suspects!

It applies just fine, a refreshing change from some of the other whacko stuff that appears in these pages.

Like it or not, hockey is a big part of growing up in Canada and I still think that you can tell a lot about a person's moral character by whether they prefer the Habs or the Leafs...

Eesti eestlased vist ei saa sellest aru, umbes nagu meil on raskusi selle eurolaulu võistlusega (I mean really, who cares?). Aga sellistest asjadest arusaamine on tähtis osa rahvusvahelisest arusaamisest - ja sellega väga tähtis osa ajalehe ülesannetest.

aitäh tähelepanu eest

EE has a world-wide readership and most of them are in Estonia.
On that basis, it's time to drop the parochial, local stories like this one which have nothing to do with anything Estonian.
EE is well-placed to act as an international forum for matters Estonian and, for that, its bilingual character is an asset.
The paper edition of EE serves Canada's Estonian community. The Internet version serves the world's.
To refine its mission, EE needs to establish control over its Internet edition. That means, getting rid of Mr. de la Trine, who uses this for therapy.

A worldwide readership for EE is nice; presuming that most of them are in Estonia is a reach. The distinction between the print and internet version is important - EE Online is free, the newspaper relies on subscriptions. One would guess that most of the subscriptions are from Toronto. Be nice, if someone at EE Online broke down the readership by country and category - ie Eesti uudised and compare that to Articles in English. Or kultuur. Or arvamus. Can't, obviously figure out language ability by such an overview, but it might give your opinion about primarily Estonian readership for online a challenge!

But returning to the topic at hand: what is wrong with a Toronto sports story once in a while? Parochial? perhaps, but it is big business, and as such news, no matter where and how you get your info fix. Balance is what is more important than slant.... and variety counts for something too

"Worldwide" readership? Who are you trying to fool?
