If Estonians were to lose their beautiful language, then what remains of their national identity? Nothing at all.

This article was not composed thoughtfully. I'm sorry to see it appear in Eesti Elu.

The author's use of slang and grammatically faulty sentence construction, betray him as someone who can't appreciate the beauty of a language, as such.
That's not a crime. But it's inappropriate, nonetheless, in anything other than a casual context.

I agree with some of what the other commentators have alluded to here -- the lack of good English editing in this newspaper. Perhaps speaking Estonian poorly is OK for some Estonians, but poor English is what represents us to the wider world. In Canada, politicians and others will pat us on the head for our work ethic or whatever, but still rate our progress as society according to the language competency of our official English representatives or publications. If it is poor, our whole society is judged. We will give the impression that we are less educated as a society than we actually are.

Take the stuffing out of your shirt. Relax a bit. A breezy style once in a while is refreshing.It seems that if the issues in the article cannot be attacked, then the writing certainly becomes the issue. Veksa, the organization in Soviet occupied Estonia charged with maintaining "cultural" contacts with exile Estonians, had the KGB-instructed responsibility to discredit, in any manner possible, Estonian organizations in the west. Their propaganda campaign not only condemned lobbying efforts that brought the question of the Soviet occupation to western governments' international agendas, but also belittled the political wherewithall of the lobbyists themselves. The tone of many of the comments is a reminder of Veksa's periodic harrangues.
