Year of kultuur? Linguistic cross-pollination, oi vey. Ending with two members of Parliament being investigated for possible acts of corruption peripherally involving the offices of the European Year of Culture, how's that for a snappy ending? And it is jää/lõhkuja in classical Estonian. Important! Not jäämurdja, but jäälõhkuja. Jäämurdja is a Finnicism that is unfortunately being pushed on us by, among others, the Maritime Museum. And laev is ship, not boat. And kaja lood contains a play on words!
Yes, the scandal was extremely embarrasing. Why do people think that they will not get caught? Especially such high level people. And in such a small country as Estonia, everyone will know...not to mention the negative impact it will have on the nation's international reputation. Hopefully the attention to the story will nip such activity in the bud, and no doubt better safeguards will be put in place.
