When a country that happens to be capitalistic victimizes its citizens, do we call for a memorial for the victims of capitalism? I think the promoters and apologists for this memorial are conflating victims of specific governments and some *isms that happened to be coincident with those governments.
OK Russ, name one specific communist regime that has not victimized it's subjects and self-righteously spread misery for the sake of a deluded political theory.
The Liberal leader, Justin Trudeau, might be embarrassed by a monument to the victims of communism, of which, there are two kinds: those imprisoned and murdered by Communist regimes; and those lucky enough to escape to places like Canada.
Hi father, the late Liberal leader, Pierre-Elliot Trudeau had a warm spot in his heart for communists. During the period of the Nazi-Soviet Pact, he was a pacifist, putting around Montréal on a motorcycle, wearing a German helmet. Visiting communist Cuba, he shouted "Viva Fidel!" That same bloody tyrant served as an honorary pall bearer at Trudeau's funeral; effectively goading us on his way to his grave.
It's enough to make you sick!
