I encourage every Estonian to support saving this valuable architectural landmark in Toronto. It is not only a cultural landmark for Estonians, but it is a real Canadian architectural landmark. Estonian architect Michael (Mihkel) Bach (1916-1972) was a professor at U of T when he designed this church. It was the first Modernist church built in Toronto. One of his students, Raymond Moriyama, worked with Bach on this project. St. Peter´s Church is considered Mihkel Bach´s most valuable work. Bach also designed the initial addition to the Estonian House at the rear of the building. With the sale of the Estonian House to developers, Bach´s contribution there will be lost. The distinct wooden ceiling design and construction in both is the legacy Bach left behind to architecture in Canada and to Estonians.
St. Peter´s Church has survived time incredibly well and is located in a very good area of Toronto. Our entire Estonian community should rally together and use this opportunity to highlight the Estonian presence in Toronto by transforming the church into not only a place of worship but an exceedingly good cultural venue. The minister and the elective should be enthusiastic and excited about the rebirth of this church. Saving St. Peter´s Church from demolition, reinventing the church for future generations and the local community is a wonderful way to make Estonians more visible in Toronto. What a legacy for these people to leave behind and with the full support of the Estonian community in Toronto, the Estonian church in Estonia, and Estonians worldwide.
I encourage everyone who was christened and confirmed at Peetri kirik to renew their membership for 2020 (a prerequisite to be able to vote in 2021) and to make your voice known and heard. Now is the time to give your support and to share your voice and your ideas!

If you are looking for the big picture view, Peetri Kirik is secure for at least three years - until the LRT is running on Eglinton Avenue, at which time the Salvation Army will able to finish construction of their new building, at the corner of Eglinton and Yonge. Once their building is completed, then Peetri kogudus will need to make up their significant contribution, which can be partly made up by reimaging its space use, and uniting with the Vana Andrese Kogudus at the Peetri Kirik. This is why there is no need to look for a purchaser of Peetri Kirik at this time.
