The Epoch Times, a New York based weekly newspaper and website written in several languages, declared that 3 million Chinese Communist Party members have quit the party in protest of its human rights abuses. The reason given are the "Nine Commentaries On The Communist Party" written by The Epoch Times and transmitted by the internet.

This news was also aired by an unauthorized broadcast over the Chinese Central Television (CCTV), when their signal was interrupted, around 8:44 p.m. on July 3, when again the "Nine Commentaries On The Communist Party" were read. Since the Chinese Communist Party has kept information about the defections and any mention of the "Nine Commentaries On The Communist Party" under wraps, the perpetrators of the interruption felt themselves justified.

On July 22, in Washington, D.C. a demonstration of 2,000 people listened to Mr. Chen Yonglin, the Chinese diplomat who defected to Australia, after he had appeared before the U.S. Senate.

The "Nine Commentaries On The Communist Party" are a series of editorials that expose the misdeeds of the Chinese Communist Party and might take the same spirit of other independence movements. These commentaries/editorials consist of:

1. What the Chinese Communist Party is.
2. On the Beginnings of the Chinese Communist Party.
3. On the Tyranny of the Chinese Communist Party.
4. On How the Chinese Communist Party is an Anti Universe Party.
5. On the Collusion of Jian Zemin with the Chinese Communist Party to Persecute Falun Gong.
6. On How the Chinese Communist Party Destroyed Traditional Culture.
7. On the Chinese Communist Party's History of Killing.
8. On How the Chinese Communist Party is an Evil Cult.
9. On the Unscrupulous Nature of the Chinese Communist Party.

The Chinese Communist Party has started to persecute those who have resigned from the party, like those in the Falun Gong.

It looks like the Chinese Communists are beginning to fold as well, which might well explain Paul Goble's recent article (Window on Eurasia: Moscow, Beijing Cooperate in Planning Against Internal Threats to the Russian Far East. July 25) on the talks/manoeuvres between Russia and China on how to handle "Internal" dissent.

The biggest propping up of Communist China seems to come from outside - that is, from out here. Its hard to find a product nowadays that isn't made in "China" or "Chine".

Maybe we should start looking at product labels before we buy.

So what's new in the Chinese Communist Party that has caused a rash of defections? Has it recently taken a turn for the worse? I doubt it. More likely, the Party's going soft, tolerating defections that were once punished.
