Details: Commencing at 10:00am at the Victims of Communism Memorial, the ceremony will consist of opening remarks, an invocation, and presentation of wreaths by various ethnic communities and embassies.
Following the outdoor ceremony, the proceedings will convene at 11:00am at The Heritage Foundation with a symposium entitled "The Captive Nations: Past, Present, and Future." Panelists for the discussion will include Dr. Lee Edwards, President of the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation; Marek Chodakiewicz, Academic Dean and Professor of History at the Institute of World Politics; and Helle Dalle, Deputy Director of the Davis Institute for International Studies at The Heritage Foundation, who will also serve as moderator.
A luncheon for participating attendees will follow the symposium and will feature remarks by Dr. Edwin Feulner, President of The Heritage Foundation; the Hon. Paula Dobriansky, former Undersecretary of State for Global Affairs; as well as, Members of Congress (invited). A proclamation from President Obama will be read at the luncheon.
