Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement congratulating the Canadian recipients of the 54th Annual Grammy Awards:
“On behalf of all Canadians, I would like to congratulate Melanie Fiona and Caroline Robert on their wins at this year’s Grammy Awards.
“Melanie Fiona, in collaboration with Cee Lo Green, won two Grammys for “Fool for You” in the categories of Best Traditional R&B Performance and Best R&B Song. Caroline Robert won Best Recording Package for Arcade Fire’s “Scenes from the Suburbs”.
“These winners have distinguished themselves in the international music community while proudly representing Canada .
“ Canada is blessed with a vibrant music scene that continues to generate award-winning artists and composers appreciated around the globe. Recognizing the importance of music to our culture, our Government contributes to Canada ’s music industry in a variety of ways, including through the Canada Music Fund and the Canadian Council for the Arts, providing talented Canadians with the tools they need to excel at home and abroad.
“I would also like to congratulate all Canadian artists who were honoured with Grammy nominations.”
