As a boy, I was forced to sing "Meil aiaäärne tänaval" and I didn't like it. At the same time I examined a photo of Lydia Koidula from a book in my parent's collection and asked myself how such an attractive -- somewhat masculine -- woman could compose lyrics for sissies. (I was only eight, at that time, but already knew what a beautiful women and a sissy looked like.) Today, much later, our dear Bird introduced me to the other side of Koidula -- the independent thinker with a robust manner of expression. God bless her good work.
I had a premonition of this epiphany when Siiri Sisask recorded "Meil aiaäärne tänaval" in a comparably robust and husky voice.
Bird -- when you decide to start accepting marriage proposals, I'd like to be the first to know.
