It is disgusting to watch those Russian orthodox ceremonies.
A vivid reminder of occupation a suppression, like that ugly symbolic building on Toompea where the Russian rats carry out their ceremonies.

The Orthodox Church suffered under the communists as much as any other and, if the rite is unfamiliar to the rest of us, that's neither here nor there.
With a few exceptions, the Russians who worship there can't fairly be called 'rats'.
One of my favourite Russians is Marina Kaljurand. She's married to an Estonian (thus, Kaljurand) and raising her children in an Estonian-speaking household. She's a graduate of Tartu University's law faculty and currently Estonia's ambassador to Russia.
Her parent's generation will never learn to speak Estonian. Her children's generation will be perfect Estonians.
So, if we can survive the Putin dispensation, Estonia will be a great success-story.
Coming back to the matter of 'rats', I'd throw Savikäkk and Maximahv in among that lot.

This is one of two very interesting postings I would say you have managed to write here in the past year, Anonymous, and your background information concerning Kaljurand is highly interesting and informative. The last time I read something interesting from you concerned your opinions about the architectural and panoramic development of Tallinn. The Orthodox rite is something that is not exclusively the domain of Russians, and it is highly unfair to criticize orthodox believers, many of whom are Estonians! There is also a noticeable increase in the number of people changing their faith to either Orthodox or Roman Catholic, something which may seem peculiar to Protestants, but largely due to a need to return to Christian roots predating the Reformation.

Though nearly recuperated, I'm not yet sure I have the energy to read -- much less respond to -- the Maxim provocations.

But... here goes: surely Maxim knows that "Anonymous" is the default value to nimi when the field is left blank.

In fact, he has himself used it enough.

So what is this conversation he is having with "Anonymous"? Any takers?

[i]Go figure[i].

I'm not so sure I really want to get better.

Hi Toomas-nice to see you're recuperating. I was hoping to see one of your "interesting" explanations concerning the forthcoming economic decline Estonia is about to witness, and why you think it has all come to this. I have always said here that Estonians borrow and live way outside their real means, and have always copped a flacking from you as usual. Perhaps you might explain to all of us in your current wisdom why it is that Estonia is in such a mess, despite having all the advantages of being a member of the EU and NATO. What gives, big boy?

Estonians of the Orthodox faith are subordinate to the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople; Russians, belong to the Moscow Patriarchate. Their Patriarch, Alexius II, (a Russian born in Estonia) was also a KGB-man -- a matter that the otherwise mouthy Maximahv doesn't talk about.

Vaadake kus me asume, kui suur meie riik on võrreldes naabritega.... Kas meil on maavarasid või muud väärtust mille pärast keegi meid kaitseks? jne. jne. Proovigem olla realistlikud.

"Rohkem pitsitama" tähendab et juba praegu pitsitatakse venelasi. Aga nii see ju pole. Kus veel saavad venelastest sisserändajate lapsed venekeelsetes koolides riigi kulul käia? Kus veel on puuduliku kohaliku keeleoskusega sisserändajaid üldsuse teeninduses? Kas Kanadas? Teie arvates on "pitsitamine" vist see, et venelastel pole Eestis enam KÕIKI peremehe õigusi, mis neil olid pool sajandit kestnud okupatsiooni ajal.
