It is more accurate to speak in terms of Post-Soviet for the simple reason that for years to come Estonia cannot bypass its years of Soviet occupation. Its seems much more logical to focus on former Soviet times that pre-Re-independence which is highly clumsy and vague to the extreme. Soviet refers to a specific time and space which is accurate and understandable.
To Mr. Johnson: more often than not, post-Soviet contains too little specific information to be useful. The main consideration: more often than not, it is not said as a compliment. Therefore it is not real bright to use it about ourselves, chiming in with the "looking down our noses at the post-Soviets choir".We've been there, done that, it's over. I looked at the streets of Tallinn yesterday. It looks to me like a European city, maybe just a tad less wealthy than the rest. Time heals all wounds. We have rejoined the world.
