I am (cough) American born.... but have moved to Estonia and have spent much time in the last 5 years here. I am not a citizen... nor will I ever have that very special Estonian spirit running in my soul. But all in all, I cannot fathom any reason why wouldn't want to have dual citizenship.

As far as voting goes.... I had a very brilliant teacher in a political course who said something to the extent "an uneducated voter is a stupid voter". it was more elegant... but the point is that if you are not self-educated with a adequate grasp of the issues and/or positions, then there is no point in voting.

The question of whether or not to vote because you do not live in Estonia is a deeper moral decision. There will probably never be a definitive answer to this question.

That aside... if your vote could displace a Savisaar all would be good :)

Just vote against Michael Ignatieff and his party. Then you have done your ultimate Estonian patriotic duty to vote against a tibla and don't have to worry about getting foreign passports. If that patriotic act is not enough for you, I can give you some address in Toronto where you can spend the rest of your life beating up tiblas.

Peeter Bush is refreshingly candid, even when that doesn't put him into the best possible light. I wish that some of our community big-shots could openly confess that they can't speak Estonian very well.
If Peeter - along with the rest of us - put a bit of effort into it, say, by reading the Estonian section of Eesti Elu, our ability with Estonian would improve, by leaps and bounds, very quickly.

Peeter -- get yourself an Estonian/European Union passport!
Then you can vote for a genuine patriot in Estonia.
Also, you may find a way of collecting welfare in Germany, old age pension in France, unemployment benefits in Spain, a disability pension in Italy, retraining benefits in Holland, and a baby bonus in Belgium.
Then you can retire to Saaremaa to live in the comfort of a king's cat.

As Riho Kruuv has said publicly, for those that don't vote someone else will do it for them. Hint. Hint. Knowing who to vote for is a grade school exercise. Get with the program. The country's too small to have apathetic onlookers.
