"To regard them as being some kind of fifth column intent on reconstituting the Soviet Union here seems far-fetched. Why they would care about tiny Estonia is beyond me."
Instead of displaying your ignorance here, why don't you ask Russians why they feel entitled to Estonia?
They'll tell you. Land once occupied by Russians, or Soviets, belongs to them -- in perpetuity!

I think EKN wants to place Soviet symbols to the same category as Nazi symbols - a difficult task in NA.
Disgusted that Sarapuu and Mõlder are publishing anonymous pro-Kremlin propaganda. Shame on you. Has EWR readership dropped to such a low?
Here's one less reader.

the wannabe censor! goodbye!
Soomaa obviously has not spoken with the Russians here in Toronto. The many that I have spoken to fully support Putin and fully believe that Estonia is part of Russia.
...the Russians feel entitled to all territories ever occupied by Tsarist or Soviet Russia.
Crazy? Yes! But that's the way it is.
There is even some talk of getting Alaska back!

I find it ironic that anonymous commentator is complaining about Mr. Soomaa's anonymity.
As for the EWR's role in this, most liberal Western newspapers publish wide variety of opinion pieces, sometimes written by Russian, Chinese, Saudi Arabian etc officials, even opinion pieces written by the "Great Satan", Mr. Putin himself. You don't have to agree with the opinion, but you have to agree to their right to publish it. BTW, right next to the Mr. Soomaa's opinion we can find Paul Globe's opinion about imminent Russian attack on Baltics http://www.eesti.ca/kremlin-re...
Freedom of speech and democracy go hand in hand. If you want to be exposed to like-minded thoughts only, stick to your own FB bubble.

But my complaint with Soomaa is not connected with his exercise of free speech, rather; he's mouthing off from a position of ignorance.

"I view the expatriate Russian community here in somewhat the same light as our own."
Have you asked these people about their views on Estonian sovereignty? Do they believe, as Mr. Putin does, that the collapse of the Soviet Union was the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the 20th century?

Kas Valdur H.Soomaa = Peter Bush = Peeter Püss?
