Much of what humans experience is imaginary when compared to what can be physically validated. Sapiens easily lose sight of the difference between imaginary and physical reality. Physical validation involves the 5 senses and the expending of a non-trivial amount of physical energy... it's easier to just simply draw imaginary conclusions rather than seek physical verification.
It is no surprise that the writer has produced a lot of false positive beliefs (and for him, undetected) about the objective reality of the problem. In order to properly deal with this issue, it is suggested that time be invested to properly understand all the facts concerning the plight of St. Peters.
