I realize that many Estonians and Latvians would like to do everything possible to destabilize Russia but we have to be careful when helping Islamists as they would just as happily destroy us as well. As a historical parallel, one only has to read about the grave mistake that Germany made in sending Lenin to Russia to cause problems for that country and its resulting catastrophic effect on the whole world.
so you prefer to let the russian empire continue to dominate over peoples that want to get out from under that yoke ? .... lenin was financed by germany, trotsky by the us .... but i do not see a similar parallel here, rather the parallel would be with the 1990 era when the baltic nations sought to regain their independence and sovereignty from the soviet/russian empire, something you prefer to to keep from the chechens
The Chechens have as much justification for independence as the Estonians. I'd support them if it lead to a democracy similar to Estonia's; otherwise not, because independence is worthless if it entails life under fascism, Islamic or any other kind.
That we haven't seen much by way of democracy in Islamic nations doesn't imply that it's impossible. Events currently unfolding in Iraq are proving the point. A constitution establishing civil rights was ratified by a high per centage of Iragi men and women and, this, in the face of death-threats from Islamic fascists. Most people everywhere, regardless of creed, want to do as they wish to earn a living and raise a family in peace and security. Similarly, there are a few maniacs everywhere who wish to lead their people to a glorious destiny and, if they are not followed willingly, are prepared to punish them with every measure, including death.
Any nation that wants peace and freedom should wish it upon others.

democracy ... the prelude to total globalization
You are lucky! You live in security, in a prosperous democracy.
If you were female and born in an Islamofascist country, you'd have your genitals mutilated, at 14 years of age, and you'd be forbidden to laugh because such behaviour is sluttish and punishable. Democracy and "total globalization" looks pretty good to that crowd.

democracy by itself would not prevent the mutilation of young women in africa ... unfortunately today, democracy's prime goal is to foster nations becoming part of a one world economic government via "free trade" for the well being of the cartel capitalism of the banks, governments and favoured corporations .... in a true democracy, would us citizens/taxpayers have supported going to $8 trillion debt ? ... when that piper comes calling, democracy may be a harsh taskmaster
