The comment re the Atlantic Charter ... "Note that Stalin was not a party to that document" ... is false. Stalin agreed to the terms of the AC on January 1, 1942. He did this to ensure a flow of American Lend-Lease supplies of food, clothing and military aid, and without them, the Nazis would have prevailed over the Bolsheviks.
That FDR was a communist-globalist sympathizer is evident even before WWII.
In 1933 (right after he is elected), FDR recognizes the Soviet Union even though the Ukranian holocaust was occurring.
In 1935 FDR authourized the masonic/satanic seal for the the US $1 bill.
A key FDR Soviet affairs adviser was Walter Duranty the NY Times Moscow correspondent who was a denier of the Ukranian Holocaust. ... etc ...

Among FDR's other dubious achievements it is interesting to recall his 'four freedoms' speech, given to Congress on january 6 1941. (Date is significant...)

It was FDR's contention that these four freedoms summarized the "values" of the US government. They were a) freedom of speech and expression; b) freedom to worship in one's own way - worship God, that is -; c) freedom from want and; d) freedom from fear. The last two were to be achieved by "economic understanding" and by "disarmament".

When you consider that the Lend-Lease program was not solely a military plan intenede to assist the allies- it made many industrialists and bankers in the US richer than they already were - and this at a time when the nations occupied by the Soviets certainly did not have freedom from fear, - this was a hollow expression of values. Lend-Lease began in 1941 and supplied the Soviets with vast amounts of materiel, allowing them to overrun Eastern Europe in 1945. And let's not forget that China was also a recipient of Lend-Lease largesse.

Also of significance: two definitions of freedom are implict here. One is freedom FROM (c and d), and the other is freedom TO (a and b). Freedom from want and fear mean an end of political activity requiring far-reaching social and poltical arrangements - at least in classical polisci theory, whereas freedom of speech and worship can only be attained by the LIMITATION of political activity. So the first two freedoms require a positive duty by all in society, while the second two freedom simply mean a refusal to meddle

And that's how FDR, by refusing to meddle with Uncle Joe's big plans sold us out and for 50 years the Balts had no freedom TO follow what was seen as a basic political and human value by the communist sympathizer.

One wholeheartedly concurs with Mr. Ederma's assessment - FDR was, from "the European continental view, one of the greatest war criminals of them all, on a par with the two who concluded the Nazi-Soviet pact."

And as far as the VOA background goes - excellent article!

Thanks for this info, Vello. I think there is a lot in this article pertaining to the lessons needed to be learned with respect to Estonian's current political insecurities. The big nations did not promise to come to our aide, and even today, we are in NATO, but it is not at all certain whether NATO will send in troops should Estonia be re-occupied in the foreseeable future. If there is any evidence which proves inconclusively that Estonians have absolutely no need to feel insecure about a possible Russian invasion because the EU and NATO will stand in our interests, then I would like to see it written in black and white. Otherwise, the lessons of the past apply equally in the future. Let's not kid ourselves into becoming to snug about our security arrangements.

FDR was trying to follow in the footsteps of Woodrow Wilson, the latter with his 1918 '14 Points' and League of Nations creation had set about to establish a world order that was designed to protect the interests of all individuals and nations while allowing unhampered free trade.
FDR, (a 32 degree mason), was interested in promoting this 'New Secular Order' in the world, and the USSR was perceived to be on the vanguard of this mission. This explains why FDR never forced the USSR to honour its obligations from the 1933 agreement in which the US recognized the USSR, why the US continued to do business with the USSR in spite of the Ukrainian forced famine and purges of the 1930s, and why US did not honour its 'commitments' of the Atlantic Charter to the peoples of Eastern Europe even though General Patton was ready to help.
Was FDR weak, a traitor, a fraud, a war criminal, or just someone staying true to an objective he had stamped onto the US $1 bill in 1935 ?

Much the same way that FDR was a Mason and was driven by their agenda, so was Kerensky in Russia. Democracy fell apart very quickly there because Kerensky was given the "thumbs down", and the very first efforts at Perestroika in Russia quickly unravelled in the face of opposition from the St Petersburg Masonic Lodge. Fortunately Gorbachev was not a Mason, and so things were different in his time.

I once heard that when Estonia was occupied by the Soviets, the Swedes responded by asking; "why didn't anyone call the police"?!! I think that kind of thinking still applies today because there are people who just cant' stop singing the praises of NATO, much the same as Estonians naively thought there was a liberator around the corner just waiting to nub the Soviets where it hurt them the most. However, we know only too well who got hurt.
