I don't speak Finnish...but I understand enough to get the drift that you are saddened by the fact that you heard our camp children speaking in English among themselves...hello...they are mostly bilingual. ..Obviously they speak English too!
....and just because this is written in English does not mean that I don't know Estonian well enough to read, write and speak it fluently.
Stop with the judgements already!!

Just an FYI. That was not written in Finnish, but in Estonian (not in traditional Estonian, but in a dialect that sounds closer to Finnish). There are many different dialects in different parts of Estonia (Võro keel, Mulgi keel, Saaremaa etc.).

Or it could have been a Finn (lot of them live in Udora) who was trying to write in Esto and got close enough. I know Finnish people who do that and the result sounds like it (I am not an expert in dialects).
Anyway, itäs kinda cool.
:-)

Kuidas sa sealt Eestist said "kuljata", mis keeles keelelkümb luse nädala alul noored rääkisid? Mis sa tühi õõnestad, kui ise pole kohal?

Ja kas seekordne varjunimi on herr Krugerilt võetud?????

Eestist15 Aug 2007 05:28
Maybe problem is that you Canadian estonians speak language called esto, but we in Estonia speak estonian language.
EstoKannuk15 Aug 2007 07:43
Väga õige! Me räägime TorEsto murrakuga.

Torestodele pühendus-põhjamaine Toreadori laul. See oleks tõeline pull teile!
EstoKannuk15 Aug 2007 09:43
Toreador - pull... hahaha
Tore nali!

I think in this day we have to realize that we aren't going to get a camp experience with ONLY Estonian unless it is in Eesti. I would love to hear all the kids speaking Esto but no matter where you go JK, Joekaaru, Seedriouru, Lakewood - the kids speak English amongst themselves. All any camp could do is provide the opprotunity to get direction in the Estonian language, learn the traditions and most importantly make Esto friends and keep the community together.
Alot of U.S. kids come because they only find this in Ontario - that says alot of good about us.
