The performance sounded ok to me. I liked Armas' little jazzy thing at the end. Couldn't hear much of the orchestra though. Are these guys good?
There wasn't an orchestra per se, just a large string ensemble (8 violin 1s, 11 violin 2s, 5 violas, 10 cellos and 5 basses).
I heard this orchestra for the first time but, certainly not the last. It was a fine performance, by every measure.
It brought together several highly skilled musicians.
Armas Maiste's "jazzy thing" was in fact an improvisation on the theme of Autum Leaves. It was a fine display of technical virtuosity and artistic creativity.
I shouldn't single out Maiste because the evening didn't have a weak spot.
