Super!

One of the organizers for this event is listed as Estonian-Canadian Chamber of Commerce!?? Never heard of this before. After a quick google, the address is listed as 958 Broadview Ave (Esto House), the phone number is no longer in service. The website estcanchamber.com seems to be a standard bolierplate without any information, other than it is located in Indonesia?! Does anybody have any information about this organization?

Never heard of it either, even though apparently it has been in existance since 1995. It is actually registered in 956 Broadview (Sihtkapital), with Toomas Kutti, Uno Jaason ja Jaan Arro as directors

Browder is definitely a good guy and it is going to be an interesting evening. Kudos to Central and Eastern European Council of Canada, but why on earth would a pro business organization sponsor a political event? Doesn't sound like a smart business decision.

Hermitage Capital is an active UK based hedge fund. It's investments in Russia in 2005 totalled around $4.5 billion. And you ask where the business aspect lies?

Instead of discussing details, like who the sponsoring groups are and who runs them -which are completely insignificant to the issue at hand- why not discuss what Canada can do to help support Russian human rights and democrats as an extension of our foreign policy? We can go whole hog on Israel but Canada remains suspiciously silent on Russia. Part of the UK syndrome?

As I said before, I don't question the event, I'm sure it will be lovely to discuss human rights issues in Russia with Mr. Browder. Supposedly the Canadian Estonian Chamber of Commerce's main purpose is to promote businees ties between Canada and Estonia (although I have never heard of them or their activities before and there is no public information available that I can find). So I ask again, why would such a organization thumb their nose into Russian human rights affairs, right off the bat as their first major public event? If I would like to do business in Estonia or use Estonia to get access to the 150x bigger Russian market, I sure as hell don't want to be associated with CanEst Chamber of Commerce.

As an Estonian Canadian entrepreneur, I think this discussion will give fascinating insight into the risks of doing business with Russia. Kudos to the organizers who were able to snag this exciting world class figure for our little community - and a free event to boot! Promises to be a fascinating talk on investment, trade and rights.

I'm sure it will give facinating input into risks of doing business in Russia and human rights issues in Russia. What does this have to do with CanEst Chamber of Commerce? Leave politics to political organizations, you are not doing any favors to legimate business interests.

This has everything to do with business: how to avoid getting burned and avoid doing business with groups that operate outside the law. Doing business in Estonia often means doing business with Russia. Nothing wrong with promoting awareness. This is an excellent business topic for the region. And excellent leadership by all groups involved.
