Perhaps you could pass on to EKN to update their website AND make it more user friendly as it would seem the last time the news was updated was 2006?
ever wonder "why" people are apprehensive to say anything out loud during meetings???? I will suggest that EKN and most all other Toronto Estonian groups are run by the same people for the last few decades.... and the succession planning process is more gene based than those who wish to run the organization TESS, the skaudi and gaidid basically have the same last names running it as from 25 to 40 years ago...... and the moment someone not blood related makes a suggestion they are laughed at or put-down.
And if the response is that if they don't do it or write or photograph for EE then who will? Ever wonder that those writers and photographers have an ego to feed?
just call me cynical

There is no profit in being too cynical.
Community organizations are run by volunteers. Often, it is a lot of work for precious little appreciation. Passive members are sometimes quick to criticize.
I am willing to contribute financially but, reluctant to step into an executive position.

I was a volunteer at Ehatare. That turned into an unpleasant experience when the mob was organized to lynch the Director. I was pressured to join them. I refused because I have a parent in residence. For that, I caught some abuse.
Eesti Elu hasn't reported the ugly details of this story. The mob has either cowed or convinced Eesti Elu of its side of the story and Ehatare hasn't made a peep because of an outstanding lawsuit and the privacy of personnel matters.
The management of Ehatare is very foolish for not responding to the slanders circulated by the mob. Talk is cheap, until you get slapped with a slander suit. Many in the mob, and at Eesti Elu, are just plain gullible. When the truth surfaces, they will be ashamed of themselves.

to the volunteer who posted
when you say director do mean the Administrator (AD) of Ehatare or the Program Director (PD) that no longer works there?
Who has been hit with a slander suit, Ehatare, the AD or the past PD?
What sort of abuse did you get hit with? did you document it, is there a record of your complaint and who did you give it to? Just remember if there is no record this too can be called slander.

My previous comment referred referred to the Administrator, not the Director. Pardon the mistake. From context, my intent should have been understood.
To my knowledge, no one has been hit with a slander suit, although some people should be. For example, one activist in the lynch-mob said that an Ehatare Director was forced to resign for falsifying a tax return. At the Annual General meeting, she was asked to either repeat, or retract, the allegation. She remained silent. (You should have been there.) This is only one of many malicious, and some loony, allegations. (Don't you see Facebook?)
Because my parent is well cared for at Ehatare, I refused to sign the Internet petition demanding the reinstatement of the fired employee. For this, I received an abusive scolding.
When I refused to stop volunteering at Ehatare, I was cursed. No - I didn't document or record this. (How should I go about this?) Nor did I know that this lapse can be called slander. (To my knowledge, you are the only one who thinks so.)

As far as I know EKN and EAK are two distinct and different undertakings and have absolutely no overlaps in functions.
The problems at Ehatare are best left to the courts.
EAK needs an independent review to ensure procedures are in place to ensure that this was a one time occurance.
If you didn't complain (verbally or written) to the administration and request a written confirmation your claim of being cursed, your allegation is no more valid than the person regarding the tax issue.
as for being taken out of context ...
As to your statement of being cursed, is this from childhood by a mean fairy god-mother seeking to wreck havoc on your parents? or did someone swear at you
if the former perhaps your new nickname should be ....... NEWT?

While the notion is commendable, there are two problems with this.
First, many organizations are in the midst of succession planning and have already passed the "torch". This is not an original or a new idea. The camps, scouts, Tartu College and many others have done this well. Eesti Maja and Sihtkapital have held very effective town halls and one conducted a thorough scientific survey with the same end goal and yielded some interesting data that is already being successfully implemented.
How can EKN lead when it is so clearly working at cross purposes with other organizations - or at the very least, seems not to have any clue about what's going on in the community? Perhaps the leadership can begin by participating and volunteering in the community?
Second, the simple absurdity and irony of the proposition above is laughable. EKN itself has not changed leadership! It's been passing the torch around the same triumvirate for 20+ years (we'd have been better off if Leivat kept it all along)! There certainly was a much vaunted -and comically flawed- election over a year ago, but the results were never published (one must ask why). From the community's perspective, it seems that the "new" chairman placed family members and fraternity brothers (those being the only serious qualifications) in leadership positions without acknowledging the results of their own election! How is it that the "torch" was passed from the last chairman to this "new" chairman? Without democratic transparency, how can we be certain he -or anyone else on the appointed executive- even received a single vote?!
Ultimately, the level of legitimacy that this group presently commands in this community is nil. There are, however, good people in the group (we'd know if the election results were ever published). Community volunteers and workers should be leading the community rather than the current crew of self-appointees if this organization wants to rebuild its legitimacy.

Valimiste tulemused olid ajalehes ära toodud. Internetist saab ka kätte 27. detsembri 2011 kuupäeval pealkirjaga "EKN valimiste peakomitee teadaanne".
