Bravo! Well articulated. I wish you all God speed and good luck in saving this beautiful place of worship.
To date the Friends of St. Peters have yet to offer a viable plan together with cost estimates of their vision. "Show me the money."
Oh great...another "Friends of.." organization. This is going to get very entertaining.
The Friends offer nothing tangible- only hopes & dreams & criticism.
However the voting irregularities seem greasy and go unaddressed. The legal fees for climbing out of that mess are self-inflicted.
Sad state.

How is any of this going to save this beautiful building?
How about all 122 people who have signed the petition to save Peetri Kirik commit to a $1,500 annual donation in perpetuity. That should take care of the $180,000 needed to run the church (meaning both building and congregation) annually. Oops I forgot about inflation.
Wow! The first practical and concrete suggestion: put your money where your mouth is. What's not to like? Think about this carefully before you hit a thumbs down!!! Are you really saying you're interested in saving the building or the congregation by hitting "thumbs down"?

There are actually over 1 100 signatories, do nt lead with misinformation, such as is being done by many in our community.
Our Estonian community is definitely going through some self-flagellation.Synonyms for SELF-FLAGELLATION: self-annihilation, self-immolation, self-sacrifice, self-abandonment, self-forgetfulness...... have to find an author who will write "The Last of the Estonians".
Enough with the 'end of the world' rhetoric. Its boring.
Sorry. I was looking at the heritage designation petition. Another crack at the math. If each of those 1101 signatories committed to only $163.49 a year in perpetuity that should take care of the $180,000 needed to run the church (meaning both building and congregation) annually. If they donated $500 as I do that should take care of inflation.
Estonians are thought of as a rational group of people. The financial situation is clear enough to explain to an 8 year old.
Is it so hard to understand? People do not attend church in the numbers required to sustain it. Despite the platitudes from the "friends" of the church, they have yet to present a viable option.

comment #2 just as you echoed - thank-you!

Using the same 8 year old level of understanding from a financial perpective....If the new Keskus centre does not attract the necessary numbers for sustainability (over 1 million required in annual revenues) what viable alternative options have been planned for this future situation. Has there ever been a "plan B"? Damn the torpedoes full speed ahead!

If Plan A was scraping the concrete above the two TTC subway track levels; if Plan B was creating a good-looking but financially unsustainable building; lets go straight to Plan C, reopen the badly needed parking lot!
Irrelevant comment.
What has the Keskus got to do with anything? So far there is no Plan B for Peetri kirik! C'mon "Friends"... show us your Plan B.
Why the negativity? We no longer have Vana Andres. Peetri Kirik will be gone in a few years unless a very wealthy white knight appears. KESKUS gives us the realistic hope of a sustainable home for our community.

KESKUS has required DOZENS of White Knights to get this far, and is still only a figment of our imagination.
Peetri Kirik...exists.

Kes? Kus? (still trying to get my head around the brand) has everything to do with the ethos of the Toronto Estonian community and heaven forbid a Toronto Estonian expat living elsewheres should dare offer input and express dismay of how this mess all came to be.
(pssst, it’s all a money grab, to fuel KusKes)
A few movers and shakers, of dubious philosophical intent, have turned the Community upside down. Aaand . . . if you think “KESKUS gives us the realistic hope of a sustainable home for our community”. Sustainability? There is no such thing. It all goes back to Jesus (that’s a metaphor by the way). All our noble ideas and intentions work for awhile, and then they get changed up. We are restless creatures. Religion used to bind people together ie. Thomas More’s concepts of Utopia . . . all dashed away into another footnote to History and now we don’t know WHO to trust anymore with our angsty feeelings about this life. Save the Architecture of St. Pete’s. It's worth dwelling in for the zen of the space, maybe to feel the ghosts of what it used to mean to a people.
Architecture as anthropology/archeology. Pick one. Then go with it.
yours very truly,

How we all wish you would just go away….mindless dribble…fake news..slander…whatever reputation you once had has been reduced to zero. I suspect you will be a frequent punchline in many conversations at future KESKUS events.
Someone is off of their meds, and it ain't Rita K from Thunder Bay.
