During the first Soviet occupation, my father was conscripted. He didn't report.
As the Soviets invaded for the second time, he had to flee by any means possible. He took an unsafe boat to Sweden because he was faced with a possible death on the Baltic, or certain death in Siberia.
He won his gamble.
