On May 1st, 2014 the final notice in Eesti Elu about the then upcoming AKEN Basaar #24
posed the question: ”Is AKEN Basaar #24 to be the last?” At the time St Andrew’s Church,
the home of the AKEN rummage sales since 1990, was in the process of being sold to another congregation and the women of the AKEN organizing committee had indeed resigned themselves to the fact that #24 would be the last AKEN Basaar.
Now, two years later, the answer to that same question has obviously changed! Two energetic younger women, Kristiina Valter and Kristi Doughty, have merged with the more „experienced” women of the AKEN committee and have taken on the challenge of organizing AKEN Basaar #25 at a new location – at Esto House on Saturday April 30th!
The dynamic duo Kristi and Kristiina are counting on the Estonian community to come through with the ”goods” once again! Do not miss this opportunity to get rid of those no-longer-needed, taking-up-too-much-space, but still in-good-condition items which are clogging up the closets, cupboards, garages and basements of your homes. No books or electronics please but a list of
the most sellable types of items will soon be available in future articles.
And don’t forget, it’s all for a good cause! The proceeds from the sale on April 30th will be directed back into the Esto community in support of our many vital community organizations. The AKEN organized Giant Rummage and Bake Sales have, over the years, developed into vibrant community events drawing upon the spirit of generosity, goodwill and cooperation of everyone involved. The volunteers of the giant recycling machine known as the AKEN Basaar will be ready to accept your donations at Estonian House on the following dates and times:
Tuesday April 26 from 11 AM to 9 PM
Thursday April 28. from 6PM to 9 PM
Friday April 29 from 11 AM to 7 PM
