100% of the Baltic Enterprise Fund reflow monies need to return to the Baltic countries!
Dear Friends:
The Baltic American Freedom League urges you to write your congressional representatives and senators and ask them recommend the reflow of 100% of the Baltic Enterprise Fund to the Baltic countries. At this time it appears that only 50% of these funds may be returned. It is of extreme importance that the Baltic States receive 100% of the monies available. This money will be used for education and training purposes, will strengthen U.S. Baltic relations, and provide stability for the region. During these economically unstable times Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania need all possible assistance to get back on track.
Senator Kerry (D-MA) Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, Senator Leahy (D-VT) Chair of the Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations, and Representative Lowey (D-18th NY) Chairwoman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations, are particularly important in this case as they are on the committees that will consider the issue. It is a must that if you are a constituent of Massachusetts, Vermont, or 18th district in New York that you write the above mentioned senator or representative.
Please feel free to use the sample letter below or write your own letter. We ask that you fax the letter because it is most effective. Regular “snail mail” takes too long and e-mails are often not read because our representatives and senators receive so many. Calling and/or meeting with your Congressperson is always effective.
Thank you for your help in this important matter. We must take action on behalf of our Baltic countries because if we don’t then our needs will be overlooked!!!
Thank you,
Vija A. Turjanis

Dear Representative or Senator:
The future of the reinvestment of the Baltic Enterprise Fund (BEF) reflow monies is an extremely important issue to the Baltic-American community. We urge you to support us on this issue and ask that 100% of the current funds be reallocated to the Baltic countries of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. $63 million is a significant amount to the economies of these Baltic nations which have suffered the great losses in the recent global economic crises.
The reinvestment of these monies comes at a critical time for the U.S. and Baltic countries. This fund will be used to continue to build democracy in the Baltic countries, help stabilize their economies, fight corruption, and strengthen ties with the U.S. and NATO. The BEF will be spent in the U.S. for education and training purposes, so there is an additional benefit to the U. S. economy as well.
This is a unique opportunity for Congress and the current administration to show that it cares for the future of this region. Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania have been proven to be reliable and strategic U.S. partners since regaining their independence and joining NATO and the European Union. It is another opportunity for the United States to show support and for the U.S./ Baltic relations and friendship.
Thank you for your consideration of this extremely important issue.
