Rae was premier of Ontario from 1990 to 1995 and, after switching parties from NDP to Liberals, served as interim leader of the federal Liberal Party from 2011 to 2013. Former Ontario premier Bob Rae has been appointed Canada's ambassador to the United Nations, the Prime Minister's Office announced today.
