Here's To You is one of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s most popular programs. The weekday music request show, hosted by Catherine Belyea, is heard throughout Canada. CBC Winnipeg listener Liis Veelma suggested the program prepared for Friday February 22, from 9:05 to noon. The broadcast ties in very nicely with the fact that Estonians the world over will be marking the 90th anniversary of Estonia’s Independence two days later.

CBC Radio Music Producer Hele Montagna has informed us that Catherine Belyea will include music and performances the who’s who of Estonian composers and conductors, featuring Veljo Tormis, Arvo Pärt, Tõnu Kaljuste, Neeme, - Paavo- and Kristjan Järvi, as well as Anu Tali, among others.

CBC Radio 2 is heard at 94.1 on the FM dial.

Here's To You - Friday February 22, from 9:05 – noon, Toronto time.

CBC broadcasts live on the internet as well – go to www.cbc.ca/listen and follow the directions provided.

Vabandust, arvasin et teatakse ja on arusaadud, Eesti Elu on ajaleht, EE Online on EE võrguväljaannete toimetus ja Estonian Life on inglisekeelne lehe lisa. Vaadake kohalikke uudiseid siin samas websiteis ja näete:

"Eestlanna Hele Montagna, CBC Toronto Radio Music produtsent, kellel on pikaaegne panus siin riigis eesti muusikat tutvustades CBC kaudu,..."

Sorry - my pride isn't linked to the latest Arvo Part CD. There's more to being Estonian than just that.

Just recently Neeme Järvi disclosed his personal view about Estonian music-that it has lost much of its gloss due to the fact that in Estonia itself, music has slowly lost its slogan as Estonia's passport to the world. Perhaps it might be worth remembering that Estonian pride can only be sustained for as long as general interest in the arts can be sustained. Judging by the declining level of interest towards serious music in Estonia, it may be that the former cultural super-state is dumbing itself down in size to the rest of the world's worst forms of cultural expression.
