Churches Open on Black Ribbon Day for Personal Remembrances and Commemorations
13 Aug 2010 EL (Estonian Life)
On August 23 rd, Black Ribbon Day, Canadians will take time from their busy schedules to drop by a church to place a flower or black ribbon and offer a private prayer for personal remembrances. Some will bring photographs and short biographies of those they wish to remember. An open podium will be available for those who wish to tell a specific story in remembrance.
Let us remember lives lost, homes shattered, childhoods destroyed, futures taken. Let us honour those who built anew — communities, homes and nations. Let us give thanks to those who overcame tyranny to provide freedom, to those who provided safe haven, for futures that are ours.
The following Estonian Churches will be open to the public from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm.
Toronto. St Peters Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church, Estonian Baptist Church. Hamilton. First Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church. Vancouver. Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church Of St Peter. Note that some churches will hold a short prayer service at 7:00.
