Citizens e-mail Estonian president
16 May 2005 Peeter Sepp
Concerned citizens are urged to advise President Rüütel by e-mail to stop pending Russian border deal.

KURESSAARE- With only hours to go before the signing of an unpopular border agreement - in Moscow on Wednesday May 18th, that cedes traditional Seto territory to Russia - Estonian citizens are urged to join a last-minute excercise in electronic democracy.

"Nearly two thirds of the population see the government's proposed action as a sell-out to Russian land-grabbers," argues Peeter Sepp, a media teacher at Kuressaare Ametikool. "Writing directly to President Rüütel is a marvellous opportunity for media-savy Estonians to share their true feelings with their elected representatives. It brings the Estonian people together again - in a common cause - not seen since the Singing
Revolution."

Participants should e-mail the president at with cc's to their local politicians and media outlets, newspapers, radio and TV stations.
