Statement

Today, Conservative finance critic Lisa Raitt released the following statement responding to the announcement that Canada’s GDP grew at a rate of 2.3 per cent during the most recent quarter, and the latest report from the PBO.

“The Parliamentary Budget Officer’s Report confirms the position that we have held for months on the surplus for this year.”

“However, going forward the deficits that are projected demonstrate the need for continued sound fiscal management during this time of global economic uncertainty.”

“As the Government prepares to deliver the Speech from the Throne which will lay out their plan for the coming years, we expect they also have a plan that includes a return to budget balance as promised.”

“The Liberal Government needs to be transparent with Canadians in terms of how large a deficit they want to run, and for how long.”
