On February 23, 2007, The Embassy of the Republic of Estonia in Ottawa hosted an informal noon time reception at the Sheraton Hotel on the occasion of the 89 anniversary of Estonia’s declaration of independence.
About 120 people from Ottawa’s diplomatic corps as well as local Canadian Estonians attended. The Honourable Peter Van Loan, Member of Parliament for York-Simcoe, Leader of the Government in the House of Commons and the Minister for Democratic Reform was the Canadian governmental representative.
Interestingly, for the first time in memory the Russian Embassy sent a representative to the reception.
