Do you have a story that needs to be told? Get inspired – EstDocs 8th Short Film Competition now accepting submissions

Filmmakers have until October 3, 2016 to submit

TORONTO, CANADA, February 23, 2016– The twelfth annual EstDocs Documentary Film Festival in Toronto is now accepting domestic and international submissions for its Short Documentary Film Competition. The complete EstDocs Film Festival will run from November 4 - 8, 2016.

This year’s awards have been sponsored through Tartu College and the Otto Rannamäe Memorial Fund. Competition winners have a chance to be awarded up to a thousand dollars in individual prizing. EstDocs audience members will be able to enjoy the top short films at Bloor Hot Docs Cinema during our gala on November 5th, 2016.

"It is such a pleasure to see our audience’s growing interest in the EstDocs Short Film Competition. This year will be our third time to showcase all the films at a special EstDocs kickoff night on October 14, 2016 at the Camera Bar in Toronto," said EstDocs Short Documentary Film Competition Director Tauno Mölder. "Entries continue to arrive from the world over, though mainly from Canada and Estonia."

Films are accepted from both professionals and aspiring filmmakers. Entrants do not have to be of Estonian descent.

"One does not need to be Estonian to appreciate a good story with an Estonian theme," Mölder added. "We’ve had a number of films by non-Estonians who have offered a different and refreshing point of view."

Submission Theme
The EstDocs Short Film Competition welcomes short documentary films (7 min or less) which are either live action or animated and in any style, provided that:
a) the film has some connection to Estonia or Estonians;
b) the film is a documentary or docudrama.

Submission Process
The entry form and guidelines for the Short Film Competition are available at www.EstDocs.com. Past competition submissions and winners can be viewed at Youtube.com/EstDocsTO .

The EstDocs Short Film Competition continues to be the only international short film contest of its kind to focus on Estonian-themed content. Entrants may submit films by mail or by electronic means for the October 3, 2016 deadline. The maximum length for films is seven minutes, excluding credits. Winning submissions and honorary mentions will be announced and screened in Toronto film venues for EstDocs audiences.

Filmmakers may submit multiple entries, but each film requires a separate entry form.
