A very special concert-brunch is taking place on March 9, at 1pm, at Toronto’s Estonian House. After a year of intensive rehearsals and a live audition in front of the 2014 Song Festival artistic director Hirvo Surva, Estonia koor has been accepted into the selected choirs category. This upcoming concert will feature this historical repertoire.
The program was developed by choosing one song from almost every song festival since 1869, a song that defined that year’s festival. And so you will hear Rudolf Tobias’ „Young Blacksmiths“ where hammers pound previously heard styles to smithereens, you will enjoy Tormis’ 1969 anniversary song festival cantata “The Beginning of Song” and your heart will skip a beat when listening to Alo Mattiisen’s version of „’Til Death“, a song from the awakening era and sung at our very first Song Festival in 1869. Of course, you will delight in hearing many more songs! You will also enjoy watching our Kungla folk dancers as they weave their own songs with their feet.
Tickets are $35, available from choir members or call Asta Lokk at (416) 485-5559.
