The Baltic countries have reached a decision to significantly limit border crossing for Russian citizens holding a Schengen visa, Latvia's Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs announced.
According to Estonia's Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu, the restriction should take effect with some notice.
"If we talk about what this time perspective is when applied rationally, we would certainly like to see it happen during the month of September, in the perspective of the next few weeks, from the second half of September," Reinsalu said.
According to him, experts from the ministries of interior and foreign affairs of the Baltic countries are still communicating with each other about details and procedures. "But I do hope that a meaningful discussion and decision could take place in our government tomorrow," he said.
In the past, exceptions to the ban have also been discussed, which mainly concern humanitarian considerations.
