Minister of Foreign Affairs Urmas Paet has expressed satisfaction with the European Union’s decision to approve the framework for negotiations for Iceland’s accession to the European Union. “In accordance with this decision, tomorrow, 27 July, will already mark the official start to the accession conference that marks the official beginning of Iceland’s accession negotiations,“ said Paet. The Foreign Minister added that Estonia supports EU enlargement in every way possible. “We hope that the accession negotiations with Iceland will progress smoothly and without any stumbling-blocks,” he said.
Paet said Estonia is prepared to share its own EU accession experiences with Iceland and to provide all facets of advice and assistance. “In April, the Foreign Ministry held an Iceland-related seminar in which experts and representatives from Estonian ministries and government agencies introduced the Estonian experience with regard to joining the European Union. We continue to be glad to share our experts’ knowledge and experience in areas of interest to Iceland,” Paet said.
