On the 5th of February 2002 a seminar on Aphasia was held in Tallinn Central Hospital. The target group that particiated in the seminar were social workers from Estonian municipalities dealing in their daily work with persons afflicted by Aphasia — acquired brain damages and communications disabilities. The seminar was part of a larger project aiming at ensuring better living condition for persons affected by Aphasia through the improvement of the quality of social rehabilitation and reintegration programmes available in Estonia. The project has been supported by Denmark as part of a larger initiative (“The Social Initiative”) aimed at assisting Estonian authorities and NGOs in addressing major social problems in Estonia. Disabled persons are one of the major target groups of this initiative. The Danish Ministry of Foreign has allocated around 1 million EEK to the project, which is co-financed by “The Aphasia Association of Estonia” (Eesti Afaasialiit). The Aphasia-project has been prepared — and is carried out — by Eesti Afaasialiit in cooperation with experts from the Speech Language-Hearing Rehabilitation Centre of Funen, Denmark.
