One of the largest delegations of Estonian Members of Parliament in the United States ever is observing our primary elections over the next week, including the upcoming “Super Tuesday” primaries.
Deputy Chair of Parliament Jüri Ratas as well as MPs Annely Akkermann, Remo Holsmer, Kalvi Kõva, Indrek Saar, Sven Sester, Kadri Simpson, and Imre Sooäär are participating in the program, which is organized by the Department of State. Their visit will include stops in West Virginia, Washington state, and Washington, DC.
Among other topics, they will discuss the role of states, local communities, local parties, and interest groups; key issues and regional priorities; the effect of the primary system on foreign affairs; and candidate fundraising. It is our hope that these visitors return with a better understanding of the complexities and nuances of American democracy, in this very interesting electoral year.
