Local Estonians noted the pleasure seeing a very large Estonian flag fluttering by the marina among those of 51 represented nations (200 competitors).
The first competition was held in Sweden in 1971. The purpose of the competition is to assist young sailors with the development of their sailing careers. Sailing competitions are held in the following classes: single handed Lasers and Laser Radials, double handed 29ers, RS:X windsurfers and multihull Hobie 16s.
The representative from Eesti was Karl Martin Rammo, age 18, competing in the Laser class. Rammo placed 15th in the final standings. He's a senior in high school in Tallinn who developed an early interest in sailing from his father. His goal is to continue developing his sailing skills and to compete in the Olympics in 2012. This was Karl's first visit to Canada.
