(Washington, DC) – A protest rally will be held on Saturday, February 4th at 2:00 pm, in front of Russian Embassy, 2650 Wisconsin Ave, NW Washington DC 20007, in support of the thousands-strong protests which will take place on the same day in Russia and in other countries.
In solidarity with the Russian fair election support movement, the protesters will come out to support democracy in Russia. In particular, they are speaking out against the widespread fraud during the State Duma Election of December 4, 2011, and demand a fair and transparent Presidential Election to be held on March 4, as well as the release of political prisoners and democratic reforms. The rally will gather Russians and other like-minded participants, including leaders and representatives of several Russian-language community organizations. The rally will last until 4:00pm.
The rally is a continuation of ongoing protest activity in Russia and abroad, such as the mass protests of December 10th and 24th, following the extensive falsifications during the parliamentary elections of December 4th, 2011. As a result of the international protest activity, the “Fair Vote for Russia” international movement was formed in January 2012, uniting activists from nearly 30 countries. We invite members of the media to the February 4 rally and urge them to cover civil society activity in support of Russian citizens – in Russia as well as in the United States. We address non-governmental organizations, politicians, public figures and ordinary citizens in Russia and the United States and ask them to support democracy in Russia and the constitutional rights of Russian citizens.
