Washington, DC (JBANC) - The Joint Baltic American National Committee, Inc. (JBANC) is pleased to invite you to its fifth conference on Baltic Security, “Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania in NATO: Building Trans-Atlantic Security” in Washington, D.C. on March 68, 2003.
President of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus joins the list of participants as dinner keynote speaker for the Saturday, March 8 main event at the Washington Marriott Hotel on 22nd Street, NW. Ambassador Dan Fried, Senior Director of European and Eurasian Affairs at the National Security Council is scheduled to be the luncheon speaker that day.
President Adamkus, who warmly welcomed President George W. Bush to Vilnius in November, leaves office February 26. He and Ambassador Fried will be participating at the conference together with ministerial level representatives from the Baltic countries, scholars from leading NGO’s, high-level representatives from the U.S. government, Congress and the diplomatic community. Discussions during the event will focus on Baltic political, military, economic and regional developments, the outcome of the Prague NATO Summit and the NATO enlargement treaty ratification process in the U.S. Senate (Please see attached program for additional information).
Latvian Defense Minister Girts Valdis Kristovskis will participate in a panel on Defense Preparedness and Anti-Terrorism, along with Giedrius Cekuolis, Secretary of the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), and Harri Tiido, the Deputy Under-Secretary of the Estonian MFA.
The program includes a half-day business and economic seminar at the Department of Commerce (Thursday, March 6), briefings on Capitol Hill and with the Administration (Friday, March 7), and a full day of panel discussions, along with a luncheon and dinner on Saturday, March 8 at the Washington Marriott Hotel on 22nd Street, NW.
