Today Foreign Minister Urmas Paet, who is on a working visit to New York, will meet with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton along with his colleagues from the EU. The meeting of European Union foreign ministers and the US secretary of state, which will take place late at night in Estonian time, will focus on the situations in Afghanistan and post-flood Pakistan, developments in Iran and in the Middle East peace process, as well as other current foreign policy topics.
Tomorrow Paet will participate in the meeting of the NATO-Russia foreign ministers being held within the framework of the opening week of the UN General Assembly. Topics to be discussed at that meeting are NATO-Russia relations and matters related to the European arms control agreement. On Wednesday the meetings will continue with a foreign ministers’ meeting focused on European Union-Russia relations.
On Thursday Foreign Minister Paet will give a speech within the framework of the UN disarmament conference that is part of the 65th session of the UN General Assembly, which kicked off this week. He will also give a presentation on Estonia’s cyber security experiences. In addition to the multilateral meetings during the UN General Assembly, the Estonian foreign minister also has many bilateral meetings with his colleagues scheduled during this week.
