Grand new piano at Estonian House
16 Sep 2005 EWR Online
The Toronto Estonian House will have a new concert piano this fall. The present instrument is in serious disrepair, and the estimated necessary restoration would cost thousands of dollars.

The cultural heart and centre of our community certainly deserves to have an instrument acceptable to the performing artists and discerning audiences of the various kinds of events that Estonian House can offer. The piano committee made a careful study of all the options available, and finally settled on the ESTONIA concert grand.

Manufactured in Tallinn, the ESTONIA piano has received high marks on the world stage as an instrument comparable to the Steinway and the Bösendorfer. The reasonable price at which this world class piano is available to us at this time is certainly a great opportunity. The committee is grateful to Dr. Indrek Laul, a graduate of the famous Juilliard School of Music and internationally acclaimed concert pianist, for his expertise and guidance. Dr. Laul represents the ESTONIA firm in North America.

For the preservation and security of this valuable instrument, a special space is being built in Estonian House that will allow for proper temperature and humidity controls.

The piano committee of Estonian House is appealing to all Estonians and their organizations for financial support of this important undertaking. If you can help, please send your donation to the Estonian House Piano Fund, Estonian House, 958 Broadview Ave., Toronto, ON M4K 2R6. You may also make your donation at the Estonian (Toronto) Credit Union at Estonian House. Contributors of $500 or more will be acknowledged, with their permission, on a plaque to be placed in Estonian House.

The opening concert will be celebrated at the Gala Concert Reception in the great hall at Estonian House on October 1, 2005, 7:30 pm. Among the participating artists will be Indrek Laul, Armas Maiste, Avo Kittask, Monica Zerbe, Charles Kipper, Sarah Medri and Mark Julson.

We thank you for your support and participation.
