This morning, U.S. Ambassador Jeffrey D. Levine joined Estonian Minister of Defense Urmas Reinsalu and representatives of the diplomatic corps in a special Memorial Day Ceremony to honor all those who lost their lives in Estonia’s War of Independence.
As part of the ceremony, wreathes were laid at the Monument of the War of Independence in Tallinn. On January 3,1920 a ceasefire ended fighting and ultimately resulted in independence for the Estonian state for the first time in history.
Today, on Estonian Memorial Day, we honor all those who have fallen in the struggle for a free and independent Estonian nation, and we look toward an increasingly bright and prosperous future for its people.
